This homemade hot honey mustard perfectly balances sweet, tangy, and spicy flavours. It's a great condiment to spread over sandwiches and glaze meats. Or turn it into a spicy honey dipping sauce or salad dressing with simple adjustments (see notes).

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 4 tablespoons hot honey *
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, more to taste

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the spicy honey mustard ingredients and stir well. Taste, and adjust seasoning to taste.
  • Transfer the spicy honey mustard to an airtight container or jar. Use straight away or (if you have the time) refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the flavours to meld. The mustard will thicken slightly as it chills.
  • Refrigerate the spicy honey mustard in a squeeky clean airtight container for up to 2 weeks. Always use clean utensils when you scoop some hot honey mustard sauce.

Notes

  • If you don't have hot honey, mix 4 tablespoons of honey with ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper and a splash of hot sauce. Or see how to make hot honey.
  • For hot honey mustard mayo: Mix 8 tablespoons of hot honey mustard with ½ cup of mayonnaise. It makes a great dipping sauce or spread.
  • For a creamy hot honey mustard dipping sauce: Mix 8 tablespoons of hot honey mustard with ½ cup of Greek yoghurt and season with salt. Or mix in some sour cream for a more indulgent dip.
  • For spicy honey mustard salad dressing: Mix 4 tablespoons of hot honey mustard with 6 tablespoons olive oil and 2 tablespoons lemon juice, or more white wine vinegar. Taste and season with salt.
